Shifting the Focus from Memorisation to Understanding, Application and Skills
NVN Senior Secondary School, Bhiduki, organised an insightful Panel Discussion on “From Rote Learning to Competency-Based Education”, focusing on the evolving landscape of school education and the need to equip learners with skills that go beyond memorisation.
The discussion explored the transition from traditional rote learning towards conceptual understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication and real-world application of knowledge. The panel highlighted how competency-based education enables students to understand concepts deeply and apply their learning confidently in different situations.
The distinguished panelists shared valuable perspectives on the changing expectations of learners, teachers and schools. They emphasised the importance of experiential learning, inquiry-based teaching, formative assessment and activity-based approaches in creating meaningful learning experiences.
