Experiencing Democracy Through Discussion, Debate and Participation
NVN Senior Secondary School, Bhiduki, organised an educational Mock Parliament Session to familiarise students with the functioning of the Indian Parliament and the democratic process of decision-making.
The session provided students with a practical understanding of how parliamentary proceedings take place, including the roles and responsibilities of the ruling party, opposition, Speaker and Members of Parliament.
Students actively participated by taking on different parliamentary roles and engaging in structured debates, discussions and question-answer sessions on relevant issues. The opposition presented questions, raised concerns and challenged viewpoints, while the ruling party responded by explaining its decisions and policies. The proceedings were conducted under the guidance of the Speaker, highlighting the importance of parliamentary rules, discipline and decorum.
The activity encouraged students to develop public speaking skills, critical thinking, confidence, leadership qualities and the ability to express opinions respectfully. It also helped them understand the importance of constructive criticism, accountability, diverse viewpoints and peaceful discussions in a democracy.
The session offered a valuable experiential learning opportunity, allowing students to witness democracy in action rather than simply reading about it in textbooks.
At NVN School, we believe that such activities nurture informed, responsible and confident citizens who understand their rights, duties and the importance of democratic values.
“Democracy thrives when voices are heard, opinions are respected and discussions lead to meaningful decisions.”
